Under Pressure
Jonny Echevarria
The title of the score for this piece is “There’s Always a Window,” referencing the window in the collage. This sonic landscape illustrates that pressure of time and expectation via the minor key and dissonance, but the final note in the cello is held, serving as thread from minor into a major key. The harmony underpinning the piece changes in this moment to convey the hope that is found in the window as escape, or a relief from pressure.
