My belief is that one of the primary purposes of art is to reflect our reality back to us, but I also believe it has the power to help us to envision alternate realities. While this piece invites us to take a moment to mourn the lives of those lost to ongoing Western imperialist violence and reflect on the struggles of those still suffering, it is also a call to those who view it to take a moment to envision what freedom can and will look like in the times to come. It is a veneration, an invocation, and a supplication.
