No Ark Came for US
“While Hurricane Katrina was not the end of the world, for most New Orleanians, it was the end of their world as they knew it. In addition to the widespread death and devastation people saw and experienced, the abandonment they experienced after the storm portended the end of their lives as they had previously known them and the beginning of their new lives. In many senses, Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath was an apocalypse.
As such, crises of faith in both God and the government were prevalent themes within the documentaries analyzed here. As expected, people were trying to make sense of why such a horrific event could take place; they wanted to understand why this had happened. Some felt abandoned by God, others felt abandoned by the government, and many felt abandoned by both. At their core, folks fundamentally came to distrust entities which they previously believed would care for and protect them. Such crises of faith are a clear thread in these films.”
